Looking toward a New Year

It has certainly been a difficult year. Friends, acquaintances, and strangers suffering and dying from the virus. Civil unrest. Tension between families and friends over political differences. A friend feeling regret over "unfriending" someone on Facebook who insulted his political views (with which I agree). And that gesture is the mildest my friend might have executed.

That's all I'll say. There's a prayer said before Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year: May the old year end with all its curses. May the new year enter with all its blessings. No one figures any year will be free of "curses." But we could all use a reapportioning of the percentages. More blessings, fewer curses, for sure.
